Tools for excellence in communication.

Neuro Linguistic Programming-NLP

Widely recognised at one of the most powerful language tools available today, NLP can produce results that seem nothing short of miraculous at times.

NLP offers tools and techniques that improve communication, personal development and outcomes. NLP works through understanding and adjusting thought and behaviour patterns and focusing on the desired solution.

What is Neuro Linguistic Programming?

  • Neuro: This refers to the mind and how we organise our mental life. It focuses on understanding how we process and store information through our senses and how this affects our states, behaviours, and outcomes.

  • Linguistic: This involves how we use language to structure our thoughts and communications. NLP examines how language reflects our mental states and shapes our reality.

  • Programming: This refers to the patterns of behaviour and thinking that we develop over time. NLP aims to identify, understand, and modify these patterns to achieve desired outcomes.

History of NLP

NLP was developed in the early 1970s by Richard Bandler, a mathematics student, and John Grinder, a linguistics professor, at the University of California, Santa Cruz. They aimed to understand the connection between successful behaviours and the underlying thoughts and language that facilitate them.

NLP was influenced by various fields and figures, including:

Gregory Bateson: An anthropologist whose work on communication patterns and systems theory influenced NLP.

Virginia Satir: A family therapist known for her work on family systems therapy.

Fritz Perls: The founder of Gestalt therapy, which emphasises personal responsibility and living in the present moment.

Milton Erickson: A psychiatrist and hypnotherapist whose unconventional and creative approaches to therapy were foundational to NLP.

By the late 1970s and 1980s, NLP began to gain popularity outside the academic and therapeutic communities. Tony Robbins brought these techniques to his work along with Chris Howard. Today, NLP is taught by many all around the world.

NLP techniques are diverse enough to work alongside kinesiology and hypnosis.
